Okinawa Japan photography group featuring unique pictures of Okinawa
If you want to experience some Okinawa music and culture March 4th is the time to be on Okinawa Island. Officially designated Sanshin day, starting at noon all over the most southern Japanese prefecture people start this important cultural celebration of their heritage by dancing the Kagiyadefu, a traditional Okinawa dance accompanied by the daunting melody of the three stringed Sanshin.
In Yomitan Okinawa people celebrate this cultural event all over the village, sometimes in their homes or schools, but the main spot to catch the annual festivities is at the Yomitan cultural center. Performers delight the audience which is usually a fully packed venue with classical, contemporary, and folk tunes on their Sanshins an instrument unique to Okinawa.
