With a population of more than 300,000 people, Naha (那覇市 ) is the capital and largest city of Okinawa Japan. With its port and airport, it also functions as the regional transportation hub, offering direct flight and ferry connections into other parts of Okinawa, Japan and Asia making Naha the gateway to Okinawa, visited by approximately 4 million tourists a year.

When Naha city was founded in 1921, in the area that present-day Naha occupies there were several municipalities including Naha city and Shuri city. Later Shuri was merged into Naha. The city know today as Naha was the former capital of the Ryukyu Kingdom. However, since Naha was almost completely destroyed in the Battle of Okinawa, only few of the city's buildings are from before the war.

Naha is located in the southern part of the main island of Okinawa. Naha has abundant shopping, dining, and entertainment options also making it is a major hub of social activity for the main Okinawa Island 

 

Transportation in Naha Okianwa

Naha Airport and Naha Port serve the city. Naha Airport is the transportation hub of the Ryukyu Islands.

Naha is perhaps the only place in Okinawa where you can get around without a car. This is because the Yui Rail monorail system, carries passengers from Naha Airport Station to the center of Naha, Kokusai Dōri, Shintoshin, and to the terminal at Shuri Station, which is closest to Shuri Castle, and provides convenient access to many other parts of the Capital city as well. There are also a number of bus routes that run through Naha. However having a car to get around can make things more convenient and if you wish to go anywhere on the rest of the main Okinawa Island a car is most necessary.
