The Memorial Hall was opened in 1978 on Mabuni Hill, the site where the Battle of Okinawa ended. Within the Okinawa Peace Memorial Park and constructed in the image of the seven seas joining hands in prayer the hall is designed to be a symbol of everlasting world peace.

The world’s largest lacquer statue of Buddha that took over 18 years to build is located in this site and dedicated to the loss of over 200,000 human lives during the battle of Okinawa. Also within the hall is an art museum, meditation forest, peace bell and paintings symbolizing the tragedy of war.
