North Okinawa

North Okinawa Map

The Northern Part of the Okinawa Main Island (Okinawa Honto) has the majority of the hotels and resorts on Okinawa yet is the least populated area on the island. With the resorts comes one of Okinawa’s greatest assets the beautiful beaches. Many of the resorts and hotels share these wonderful beaches with the public for free or sometimes a small fee.
Along with the natural beauty of sandy shores and cobalt blue or emerald green seas North Okinawa also features some of the best wilderness and nature on the main island. So if you like the great outdoors you’ll want to take a hike up Mt. Yonaha, go jogging in Kenmin no mori - Forest park, watch the sunset over Manzamo, or go diving at Maeda Misaki just to name a few of the choices.
The North of Okinawa Island has many attractions, theme parks, zoos, and other great family fun spots. People on this part of Okinawa are very proud of their heritage as can be seen in the themes of many of the sights and festivals.
The real big attraction in the North of the Okinawa is of course Ocean Expo Park, featuring Churaumi Aquarium one of the world largest such facilities famous for housing whale sharks. The park also has free dolphin shows, sea turtle exhibitions, many marine life demonstrations, gardens, historical village, and beaches.
