Edoya Exchange Centre new Location

On March 1st Edoya Exchange Centre (located in Mitsukoshi Okinawa Department in Makishi Naha on the 1st floor) opened its doors and welcomed new customers to the biggest exchange location in Naha outside the local banks. This is the third and largest location to date with two other offices in Okinawa City and in Chatan Cho. 

Whale Watching Over

Another year has come and gone for the Whale watching tours. This year since December 26th the whale watching committee have counted 204 humpback whales in the area. These numbers are down from last years count of 239 but that didn't stop the tourist, this year was the busiest year to date. People from all over the world flocked to the Kerama Islands to catch a look at the beautiful creatures.

New Bar getting stand-up reviews

 New bar in Tomari, Naha "Kushiton" is getting rave reviews for its Japanese stand up style. Opened on March 31st just around the corner from Tomari Elementary School, seats about 15 people and uses all local meats and vegetables. As one of the cheapest places to eat in the area - what you can expect is local pork skewers for only 130 Yen and a beer for 430 Yen, and a full meal including a side dish will only cost 200 - 300 Yen.

 Okinawan pro-golfer Ai Miyazato is coming home to play in the 23rd Daikin Orchid Ladies Golf Tournament, and the only way to describe her is ‘sizzling hot’.

Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium Reaches 20 000 000

 Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium has just had its 20 millionth visitor and they had a great time by giving out gifts to 10 lucky visitors.

  

 Summer is just around the corner and the staff at the Okinawa Chutaumi aquarium are up to great things, including educational programs like a touch tank, aqua lab and a living sea tour.

A weeklong exhibition featuring more than 160 photographs of Okinawa taken by Americans, and entered into a competition-exhibition sponsored by the Foreign Ministry’s Okinawa Branch, has ended with recognition ceremonies.

 Hawaii event celebrates Okinawa culture, with donations going to the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii, Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce, Honolulu Japanese Junior Chamber of Commerce and Hawaii United Okinawa Association.

Fare cooked by D.K. Kodama, Australian Kurosawagyu beef prepared by chefs of Benihana, and Okinawan cuisine from Off the Wall restaurant. Three Japanese sake breweries — Shirataki, Tsukasabotan and Taiheizan — offered samples of new products.

 On March 29th the newest fiddler crab species was discovered in nearly 20 years, Shih Hsi-te an associate professor in National Chung Hsing University's Department of Life Sciences made the latest discovery.

Japan officially in bloom

Okinawa islands began seeing blooming cherry blossoms in late December 2009 but now the rest of Japan has caught up. The Japanese Meteorological Agency said that the country's capital was officially in bloom – a closely watched announcement that marks the start of the yearly cherry blossom viewing season.

Sand From China Blows into Okinawa

Six flights between Naha and Kume Island, Naha and Ishigaki Island, Naha and Kobe were cancelled Sunday. In total 63 flights were delayed as the wind-driven yellow sands saw no sign of stopping.
