Beach season has come to Okinawa!

Japan’s Earliest Beach Opening on the Yaeyama was held at Sukuji Beach on Ishigaki Island Saturday  March 20th. Ceremonies started at noon along with a traditional prayer, dance, and local entertainment.

Dalai Lama To Visit Okinawa Japan November 2009

His Holiness The Dalai Lama will be visiting Okinawa this fall in November. According to details released so far his plans are to pray for peace at the Peace Memorial Park in Itoman City that helps commemorate the atrocities that took place in Okinawa during World War Two. He also plans to give a speech in his classic seminar format.

More than just an Izakaya

For Japanese tourists one of the draws to Japan’s most southern prefecture, is the music and food. This is something that people who travel to Okinawa only looking for SCUBA diving or beaches are missing out on.

One of the best nights out I had in many years was when I went to a traditional Okinawa Izakaya (pub) to take in a little of the local music that I heard all my Japanese friends tell me about.
