Open Garden in Nanjo City 2012 Spring
Open Garden in Nanjo City 2012 Spring
(April 14 to April 22, 9:00-17:00)
It is spring again! “Open Garden in Nanjo City 2012 Spring”
“Iriomote Ran Orchid (Trichoglottis luchuensis),” which is now being displayed at Tropical Dream Center, Ocean Expo Park, also can be seen in this Open Garden!
This garden is filled with a variety of beautiful orchids. The owner also sells seedlings and flower pots of orchids and cattleyas.
This garden shows a great contrast of a lively green Ryukyu pine and
magnificent gray Motobu limestones.

How lovely! A collaboration of the Okinawan culture and western culture?
Reddish brown Shisa and bricks make a perfect combination, behind them stands well-trimmed Ryukyu ebonies.
When you go inside, even more beauty will take your breath away.
This garden decorated with style stands on a hill, looking over Kudaka Island!
The owner of this garden says
“After I used this place for a potato field, I threw seeds of impatiens toward Ryukyu limestone to add some colors on the stone. But the seeds bounced back and dropped and now there are full of impatiens before the limestone!”
Like the very friendly, honest owner, his impatiens grow freely and are cheerfully in bloom!
Wow!
This staircase leads you to an observatory where you can sit at a table with Gajumaru Banyan Tree!
This doesn’t look like a private garden. This seems to be one of scenic spots, doesn’t it?
This garden has a very pleasant, warm atmosphere. It shows the character of the owner.
Many shelves of long cherished bonsai trees. When I visited here, it started raining. With a blessing of natural irrigation, bonsai leaves looked even more lively and refreshed!
If you want to see photos of the garden, please click the following link to see them from “Open Garden 2011 Autumn.”

I cannot believe this garden belongs to a private home…so spacious!
This marvelous Ryukyu limestone staircase stretches out long enough for you to stroll around this fantastic garden!
You can have a view of Aji Island while resting on a comfortable stone table setting.
The owner must have utilized views of Aji Island and the surrounding sea (shakkei borrowed landscape)
Actually, the next-door has also has a beautiful garden with shakkei of Aji island!
If you want to see pictures of the next-door garden, please click the following link to see them from “Open Garden 2011 Autumn.”

This garden made a debut for Open Garden this spring♪
How come this spacious, lovely garden has been hiding from us until now!
Every time we have Open Garden in Nanjo, we are very lucky, aren’t we?
This is one of my favorite gardens. Can you see a goat house stands on a slope?
A cute goat is waiting for you inside.
It is so healing and comforting around the goat♪
If you want to see photos of the goat and the garden, please click the following link to see them from “Open Garden 2011 Autumn.”

These are just a part of “Open Garden in Nanjo.” You can enjoy totally 31 private home gardens (including some restaurants) with just \200 passport as many times as you like until Sunday, April 22. I recommend you to come with a Japanese friend because some houses are very difficult to find. You can buy \200 passport at “Ganju no eki (near Sefa Utaki), Nanjo City Offices (in Tamagusuku and in Ozato), Yuinchi Hotel Nanjo, Okinawa World, etc.
For the details, please click the following link. It is written in Japanese, so please get a help from a Japanese friend.
